Using Design Problem Characteristics to Build a Prototyping Strategy

Abstract

Over the course of the last three decades, numerous methodologies have been created to enhancethe design process with experimentation, particularly methodologies for conceptgenerationC47915l and manufacturing15. Particularly in the engineering educational context, suchdesign experimentation is done with prototypes. There are several different types of prototypes:e.g. marketability prototypes, functionality (or engineering) prototypes, manufacturingprototypes, etcY51. However, there are relatively few structured approaches to organizing, sequencing, and bounding such experimental prototyping.
