Abstract

This report summarizes SIGAR's oversight work and updates developments in the four major sectors of Afghanistan's reconstruction effort from July 1 to September 30, 2017.* It also includes an essay on the reasons for the successes and failures of the U.S. security-sector assistance mission in Afghanistan, and extracting usable lessons from them. During this reporting period, SIGAR published 16 audits, inspections, reviews, and other products assessing the U.S. efforts to build the Afghan security forces, improve governance, facilitate economic and social development, and combat the sale and production of narcotics.
