Clinical Study of Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA) for Severe Pelvic Fracture and Intra Abdominal Hemorrhagic Shock using Continuous Vital Signs

Abstract

Hemorrhage remains a leading cause of death in military trauma settings. Reports from the battlefield have found that over50%of potentially salvageable deaths are related to uncontrolled non compressible torso hemorrhage (NCTH). Severe pelvicinjury with associated junctional femoral hemorrhage results in hemorrhagic shock. Endovascular techniques such as intra-aorticballoon occlusion have the potential to significantly decrease blood loss, improve physiologic parameters, andultimately lead to increased survival in patients in hemorrhagic shock from severe pelvic injury.
