An Automated Energy Detection Algorithm Based on Kurtosis-Histogram Excision

Abstract

This report is the result of applying statistical processing techniques to the energy detection scenario of signals in the RF spectrum domain. The algorithm was developed after examining the collected RF spectral data files and revisiting a previous effort on prognostics and diagnostics on ball bearing fault detection. The algorithm automatically establishes a detection threshold based on the data of the RF spectrum measurement. It is able to determine the threshold level even when there are signals present in the RF spectrum.
