412th Test Engineering Group Vision for Future Knowledge Management (KM)

Abstract

Our customers are demanding more rapid turn-around of test data in order to support acquisition decisions. The systems under test are becoming increasingly complex, non-deterministic and are heavily based on software capabilities, which means that a test may not achieve the same system outcomes even while performing the same test maneuver and conversely may achieve the same system outcomes during a completely different test maneuver. Finally, the amount of data being generated during open air flight testing is continuing to increase into the near terabyte per flight making management an increasingly complex issue. The vision is to create data centers for the TENG test customers to allow the data to be readily available within minutes of a flight, for the data to be organized so that the engineer can readily perform analyses of data across multiple flight, and to utilize automated tools so that the engineer can spend more time interpreting the results and less time performing the grunt work of preparing the data for analysis. To do this, the government managed data centers need to have several key characteristics: open source, open architecture; sufficient on-line storage for all active data; quick and automated tools for ingesting the data and performing the engineering unit conversions; implementation of the legacy tools and tool development environments; and finally, data analytic toolsets that enable machine learning, model based analysis, artificial intelligence, etc that support the finding of the unknown unknown system under test responses.
