Device Applications of Metafilms and Metasurfaces

Abstract

This is the final performance report for a program entitled: 'Device Applications of Metafilms and Metasurfaces'. The proposedeffort aimed to demonstrate that the performance of such thin film optoelectronic devices can be improved by judiciouslynano-patterning the constituent layers at length-scales below the wavelength of light. This action creates metafilms andmetasurfaces that have optical properties that can go beyond those found in nature. We have explored how the fundamentallight-matter interactions are modified from continuous unpatterned films to provide enhanced light-absorption and emissionproperties.
