Development of Large Blue-Phase Liquid Crystal in Single-Crystal Form

Abstract

The PI had excellent work on this project. The PI reports the fabrication of extraordinarily large monocrystalline photonic crystals by controlling the self-assembly processes which occur in unique phases of liquid crystals that exhibit three-dimensional photonic-crystalline properties called liquid-crystal blue phases. They have also described the a process and technique for growing these crystals. The work has been recently published in the journal Nature Communications in 2018 with AFRL researchers.
