Development of Environmental Health Criteria for Insensitive Munitions (IMX-101-104)

Abstract

The objective of this work was to provide focused toxicity information for constituents of IMX-101 (NTO and DNAN) that will allow for more accurate benchmark derivation consistent with existing regulatory guidance and frameworks and allow for optimal operational flexibility at ranges while ensuring environmental health. Toxicity tests were conducted with NTO in mammals, birds, and an amphibian species; DNAN in aquatic species. Study results were also published in the peer-reviewed literature and provisional environmental criteria were developed to protect human health. These data will also be used to develop benchmarks for wildlife, used to develop waster water discharge allowances, and other criteria.
