Bacteriophage Therapies to Prevent and Treat Diarrhea in Military Personnel

Abstract

Our goal was to help improve military productivity by developing bacteriophage-based treatments that can be used instead of antibiotics. Bacteriophages, or phages, are small viruses that infect bacteria and are harmless to humans. EpiBiomes automated phage discovery pipeline was to be leveraged to find 100 phages against enterotoxigenic E. coli, each of which would then be characterized in detail to identify the best phages for a therapeutic phage cocktail.
