Feral Macrophages: Dynamics of Free-Living Amoeba Interactions with Pathogens

Abstract

This research project is to define the dynamics of free-living amoeba (FLA) interactions with six bacterial and fungal pathogens of public health and economic interest with a view to (i) elucidate the control factors that will enable the use of FLA in the modulation and remediation of pathogen-contaminated environments and the treatment of drug-resistant infections and (ii) enhance our understanding of pathogen persistence in the environment towards improved disease surveillance and control.
