Comparison of Effects of Ridge Preservation with and without Buccal Overlay Grafting

Abstract

In this single blind, randomized clinical trial, two freeze dried bone allograft (FDBA) grafting techniques for ridge preservation were compared, one with socket grafting alone, and one with socket grafting and a buccal overlay. The goal of the study was to determine if either grafting technique is superior in minimizing ridge resorption following tooth extraction. Two different membranes are utilized for each of these techniques, Cytoplast, a dense PTFE membrane, and BioXclude, an amnion-chorion derived resorbable membrane.
