Sustained In situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO) of 1,4 Dioxane and Chlorinated VOCs Using Slow release Chemical Oxidant Cylinders

Abstract

This study demonstrated the use of slow-release chemical oxidant cylinders to treat a plume containing dioxane and chlorinated volatile organic compounds. The objectives were to demonstrate/evaluate the technology effectiveness,sustainability/longevity, oxidant transport and destruction, implementability/secondary water quality impacts, and technology reproducibility. Unactivated persulfate embedded in a slow-release paraffin wax formulation was emplaced in two 4-inchwells which were housed inside 18-inch diameter boreholes.
