Determining Predictors of Survival among Traumatic Cardiopulmonary Arrest Patients in a Combat Theater Environment
Abstract
Survival from traumatic cardiopulmonary arrest has been reported at a rate of 0-4 percent in the civilian pre-hospital setting, and many consider resuscitation of this group to be futile. No prior studies have assessed the patients that have received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in a combat setting for predictors of survival. We conducted an IRB-approved query of the Department of Defense Trauma Registry to identify patients who received CPR in the pre-hospital setting or during the first 24 hours of injury in a combat theater setting, between 2007 and 2014.
