A Novel Energetic Dinitrobenzofuroxan: Trinitrobenzene Co-crystal

Abstract

A 1,3,5-Trinitrobenzene (TNB):4,6-Dinitrobenzofuroxan (DNBF) energetic co-crystal has been prepared by three methods: its sensitivity to friction, shock, and impact are reported. Also, its thermal properties have been determined. The co-crystal forms in a 1:1 ratio through primarily hydrogen-bonding and stacking interactions. Its single crystal X-ray structure contains alternating bilayers of TNB and DNBF, with TNB having non-centrosymmetric V-shaped troughs.
