Condition Assessment and Coating System Recommendation For VC-8 Maintenance Hanger, Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico

Abstract

The Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center (NFESC) was requested, by the Public Works Center (PWC) Roosevelt Rds. Puerto Rico, to assess the surface condition of their VC-8 Aircraft Maintenance Hangar (Bid. 1625) and recommend an appropriate light-reflective, chemical resistant flooring system with slip resistance. During the week of March 8, NFESCs Coaling Specialist examined and tested the hangars concrete for the following: A) Visual examination, B) Concrete coring, C) Adhesion testing, D) Relative compressive strength, E) Moisture vapor emissions, F) Crack mapping, and H) Identification of areas requiring concrete repair. A combination of funding from NFESCs Demonstration/Validation (Dem/Val) program and PWC Roosevelt Rds. was used to perform all work associated with this effort. This report was prepared to document NFESCs efforts in response to this request and, in addition, to identify a potential demonstration site for use in NFESCs Dem/Val program titled Coating Systems for Aircraft Maintenance Facilities Floors.
