Cryogenic Oxide-Free VCSEL-Based Data Link for Focal Plane Array Camera

Abstract

Cryogenically cooled oxide-free vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) show a dramatic decrease in bias current requirements for high speed. Combined with a projected increase in differential gain, the cryogenic VCSEL link could lead to very high speed with ultra/ow bit energy.
