2018 U.S. Coast Guard Service Academy Gender Relations Survey: Overview Review

Abstract

This report provides results of the 2018 Service Academy Gender Relations Survey (2018 SAGR) conducted by the Health and Resilience Division within the Office of People Analytics (OPA) at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA). This survey is the ninth of a series of surveys mandated by U.S. Code 10, as amended by Section 532 of the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 for the Military Service Academies. Though the aforementioned policy does not require USCGA to be assessed, USCGA has requested to participate since 2008, fulfilling the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2010 which mandates report of sexual assaults in the Coast Guard. It assesses the incidence of unwanted sexual contact, sexual harassment, and related issues at USCGA. The survey results include rates of unwanted sexual contact, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination; a discussion of students perceptions of Academy culture with respect to unwanted sexual contact and sexual harassment; and the availability and effectiveness of sexual assault and sexual harassment training.
