Cost analytics service for cybermanufacturing

Abstract

Time, quality, and cost are the major challenges that small-and-medium size manufacturers (SMEs) are facing. To keep SMEs competitive, affordable, timely, and accurate cost estimation services are needed in a digital manufacturing and design environment so that SMEs can be successful in bidding jobs. Existing cost estimation approaches in current industry practice are subjective, ad hoc, and heavily depend on the bidders experiences. SMEs have limited resources to develop systematic approaches for cost prediction. An innovative technology proposed by the team formed by Georgia Institute of Technology and Future Way Designs LLC is to provide cost analytics service to predict manufacturing costs with enhanced data intelligence under the emerging service-oriented cyber manufacturing paradigm so that manufacturers, especially SMEs, have access to tools for systematic cost analysis and estimation.
