Fix Corruption First to Improve Philippine Security

Abstract

The Government of the Philippines has been plagued by corruption for many years and each administration since WWII has committed to fighting it, but has had little success. The impact of this extensive corruption is exacting negative consequences on the economic prosperity and security of the Philippines. The U.S., utilizing all elements of national power, should first focus its efforts on helping the GOP fix public corruption. In doing so, the Philippines will increase its self-sufficiency as it realizes the additional resources from reduced corruption. Increased resources with a better overall investment environment will encourage meaningful and sustainable positive change in the Philippines.
