Windmill Canyon Septic Leachate Assessment

Abstract

Marine Corp Base Pendleton is currently assessing potential uses for recycled water, including increased irrigation and water features for the on-base golf course at Windmill Canyon. In support of this effort, an assessment of the current state of the septic systems at the golf course was performed. During the course of this study, ground penetrating radar and visual assessments were made to determine the location and physical condition of the septic tanks and leach fields. Groundwater samples were taken in select locations to determine current water quality. Potential impacts of leachate on groundwater quality were estimated from 1-dimensional modeling. Results from these assessments were used to develop recommended actions to mitigate current problems and future directions.
