Lookup Tables for Ring Resonators

Abstract

This report is intended as a guide for creation of data that ring resonators require for soil permittivity measurement. It starts with computational electromagnetic modeling of the resonators with the aim of graphically capturing the power transferred from an input port to the output port of the ring resonator, namely the S21 parameter of the resonator circuit as the input frequency is monotonically varied searching for humps or resonances in the S21 graph. The modeling is done over a collection of possible permittivities to span those that test samples might possess. Each permittivity from this collection causes resonances at unique frequencies and resonance quality factors (Qs). These data, after some manipulation, can then be put in a form or lookup table that the MATLAB software then uses for permittivity calculation. As the simulations can take considerable time to create and execute, this report describes a method that may speed up the lookup table creation process.
