One-Component Composites based on Nanorods: From fundamental studies to multifunctional materials

Abstract

Create one-component nanocomposites (OCNs) based on polymer-grafted cellulose nanocrystals and investigate their properties, Specifically: Develop robust chemistries and procedures for the synthesis of Hairy NanoRods (HNRs) based on CNCs Demonstrate that homopolymer-CNC based OCNs can overcome the limitations of conventional CNC nanocomposites (aggregation, embrittlement)Investigate structure-property relationship of polymer-functionalized OCNs. Demonstrate structure-specific functions such as shape-memory behavior, toughening, selective transport, healing, adhesion.
