Dynamics, Impacts, and Predictability of Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere Interactions in the Northern Indian Ocean

Abstract

The project has two main threads that are aptly aligned with the ONR ASIRI and NASCAR DRls. For the Bay of Bengal(BoB), we explore the sensitivity of the monsoon wind and rainfall variability to local air-sea coupling and remote influences based on various observational datasets and then use the regional models to quantify the impacts. For the Arabian Sea(AS), the regional coupled model was developed first, whereby the sensitivity of the air-sea coupling to the spatial scale of the oceanic variability is being examined.
