Optimal Physical Space for En Route Care: Medic Posture and Injury Survey Results

Abstract

An anonymous online survey was distributed with the intent of identifying factors which contribute to musculoskeletal disorders in U.S. Army enroute care medical providers. Lower back injuries were suffered by 87% of respondents. The most common causes of lower back injuries among respondents were awkward positions and lifting patients. Loading and unloading patients from evacuation platforms was among the top causes of all awkward postures among respondents.
