DoD STARBASE: Improved Measures for Participation, Outreach, and Impact

Abstract

The STARBASE program provides hands-on instruction in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) topics to fifth graders from disadvantaged schools. Classrooms of students (with their teachers) visit the program for five days of instruction and hands-on activities. RAND was asked by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs to provide a description of who participates, analyze current outreach efforts, and develop additional measures of outreach for the program.
