Multi-Institutional Multidisciplinary Injury Mortality Investigation in the Civilian Pre-Hospital Environment (MIMIC)

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to focus efforts on a comprehensive review of 3,000 civilian prehospital injury deaths. A multidisciplinary study group will apply the framework and methodology that was developed to identify causes and mechanisms of death and estimate potential survivability. The study will describe the epidemiology of pre-hospital mortality in the context of trauma system development and estimate impact on society. The results will assist in the development of a blueprint for a sustained effort at public health injury mitigation strategies in the pre-hospital environment, identifying high priority areas for injury prevention, trauma systems performance improvement, and opportunities for advancements in research and development.
