BETASTAR

Abstract

Games have been used for decades as an important way to test and evaluate the performance of artificial intelligence systems. StarCraft, considered to be one of the most challenging Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games has emerged as a grand challenge for AI research. DeepMind posted on their blog where they described a StarCraft II program they named AlphaStar, the first Artificial Intelligence to defeat a top professional player. The objective of our BetaStar effort was to replicate DeepMinds AlphaStar from the incomplete information available from their blog post. This NRL Memorandum Report presents detailed documentation by all of the projects team members on investigations performed and accomplishments.
