Microtox Acute Toxicity Testing of Energetic Replacement Candidate N-Propylnitroguanidine (PrNQ)
Abstract
The energetic and toxicological properties of N-propylnitroguanidine (PrNQ) has been assessed as a potential as a replacement for melt castable formulations such as Composition B, which contains trinitrotoluene (TNT) and 1, 3,5-hexahydro-1, 3,5-trinitrotriazine (RDX), or compositions containing 2,4-dinitroanisole (DNAN). This study evaluated the aquatic toxicity of PrNQ with the Microtox Acute Toxicity Test System, a bioluminescent bacterial aquatic toxicity test. The data from this study is used to assist in making environment and health-based decisions regarding the design and selection of formulas and materials for further development of new munition compounds.
