Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP)

Abstract

The US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Army Research Laboratory's Safety Office has updated the Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) that provides guidance on the management of occupational exposures to hazardous chemicals in the laboratories. The CHP applies to all laboratories and areas that use hazardous chemicals in accordance with the definition of laboratory use and scale provided in the plan. Generally, where this standard applies it supersedes provisions of all other standards in 29 CFR Part 1910 Subpart Z, except in specific instances identified by the OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1450 standard. Laboratories covered by the standard are obligated to maintain employee exposures at or below Permissible Exposure Limits specified in 29 CFR Part 1910 Subpart Z, but the manner in which it is achieved will be determined through formulation and implementation of a CHP.
