Multi-Domain Battle

Abstract

In February 2017, the Secretary of the Army requested the Army Science Board (ASB) conduct a study entitled "Multi-Domain Battle" (MDB). The Commanding General (CG), U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), was identified as the study sponsor. Objectives laid out by the Secretary included: Assessing how expanding and re-balancing the Army's focus on Air Land Battle to fighting more effectively in all five Department of Defense (DoD)-recognized military warfighting domains (land, air, sea (maritime), space, and cyberspace, as well as operational environments such as the electromagnetic spectrum and cognitive) could significantly enhance tactical, operational, and strategic outcomes. Assessing potential combat efficiencies and synergies gained by better leveraging, synchronizing, and integrating joint, interorganizational, and multinational (JIM) capabilities across all present and future domains.
