Bridging the Archipelago: An Assessment of the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative's Total Learning Architecture (TLA)

Abstract

This report provides an assessment of the first cycle of a significant multiyear research and development project undertaken by the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative to support the modernization of the governments distributed learning technology, strategy, and infrastructure and to mitigate the limitations of learning management systems as a total solution. The project, called the Total Learning Architecture (TLA),intends to produce viable interoperability specifications and standards to implement the concept of a future learning ecosystem comprising interconnected learning opportunities, supported by technology, driven by data, and integrated with other talent-management capabilities.
