Washington Observations 1846-1898

Abstract

The Washington Observations series was published by the US Naval Observatory from 1846 to 1898. Its first issue was described by then-Superintendent Matthew F. Maury as the first volume of Astronomical Observations that has ever been issued from an institution properly entitled to the name of Observatory on this side of the Atlantic. The proceeding volumes were published irregularly until 1898 when the U.S. Naval Observatory Publications series (also known as the Second Series) began.
