A New Zimbabwe Assessing Continuity and Change After Mugabe

Abstract

President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe came to office on the back of a military coup in November 2017, replacing President Robert Mugabe, who was in power for 37 years. Mnangagwa promised to take the countrymired in political and economic crisis for nearly two decadesin a new direction. Has he delivered? This report takes stock of Zimbabwes political and economic reform efforts since Mugabes departure and offers recommendations for how to help the country recover.
