National Defense Its Place in our Political System

Abstract

Gentlemen, our problem is to determine the place of national defense in the political system of the United States. It appears that two basic assumptions must be made before we can discuss the problem and arrive at certain conclusions. First we must assume that in referring to the political system of the United States we refer to the governmental organization and laws and activities established for the purpose of governing the people. Secondly we must assume that the term "national defense" is syn-nonomous with the term "national security." I will discuss in the following order the political system of the United States, the concept of national defense and finally the effect of the economic policy on national defense.
