Targeted Normoxia to Conserve Oxygen and Improve Clinical Outcomes in Combat Injured Special Operations Forces

Abstract

Oxygen therapy has undisputed importance in the care of critically ill medical and trauma patients to treat and prevent morbidity associated with hypoxia. However, generous supplemental oxygen is routine, and often results in hyperoxia. The overall objective is to determine the feasibility, safety, and potential effectiveness of targeted normoxia as a strategy to conserve oxygen and improve clinical outcomes in critically ill trauma patients.
