Defense Spending and its Relationship to the Federal Budget
Abstract
Defense policy and its implications on the Federal budget is subject to much debate. GAOs study covers historical trends in defense outlays and total obligational authority, defense policy and its relationship to the budget, long-term factors which influence defense policy and spending, and questions for use when considering public policy and corresponding budget decisions. The study focuses on the major defense budget areas of investment, operations and maintenance, and military personnel.
