Fundamental Limits to Electromagnetic Response in Novel Platforms

Abstract

Demonstrated and published three key categories of results: (1) development of a framework for upper bounds to EM response in the presence of noise/other sources of incoherence, generalizing the classical ray-optical 'brightness theorem,' (2) derived upper bounds to the maximal free-space concentration of EN waves, particularly as they are confined below the diffraction limit, and (3) demonstrated large-scale inverse design as a tool for discovering state-of-the-art metasurface structures for applications such as lenses and LIDAR.
