Navy PRT Modality Validation Pilot Study

Abstract

The U.S. Navy is transitioning from a culture of fitness testing to a more pervasive culture of functional fitness. The objective of this pilot study was to assess PRT Tier II modalities to be potentially included in a cycle 2 alternative PRT. 41 Active Duty Sailors stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam participated in this pilot study from 2MAR18-10MAR18. Sailors completed 11 fitness modalities and researchers identified the seated medicine ball throw, standing long jump, repeated 300-yd shuttle run, and forearm plank as the modalities recommended for inclusion in an alternative PRT.
