Direct, Channel-to-Channel Clutter Cancellation (DC4) with Phase-Interferometry in Multi-Channel SAR for Detecting Surface Moving Targets

Abstract

In a Synthetic Aperture Image of the ground, the target motion causes the moving targets to appear at locations different from their true instantaneous locations on the ground. In a corresponding interferometric phase image, all points on the ground nominally appear as a continuum of phase differences while the moving targets appear as discontinuities. By threshold comparisons within the intensity and the phase images, we (and others) have shown that it is possible to detect moving targets in the SAR. In this paper we show that the detectability of moving targets in multi-channel SAR is further enhanced by a direct, channel-to-channel cancellation of the fixed ground image, which acts as the clutter.
