American Effort in France

Abstract

The following significant dates in the history of the First Division are listed in order to facilitate research and study. 1. The organization of the First Division began on May 23, 1917. 2. It sailed for France beginning June 12, 1917. 3. The first troops of the Division landed at St. Nazaire on June 26, 1917. 4. The Division moved to the Gondrecourt training area on July 14, 1917. 5. It first entered the lines on October 21, 1917 and suffered its first casualties on November 3, 1917.
