The IAU Resolutions on Astronomical Constants, Time Scales, and the Fundamental Reference Frame

Abstract

This Circular presents the resolutions recently adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) regarding constants, time scales, and the new fundamental astronomical reference frame, the FK5. The resolutions are intended to apply to the reduction of observations on or after 1 January 1984, and to be used in the preparation of ephemerides for the years 1984 and beyond. These resolutions will necessitate major revisions in reference data, procedures, and algorithms for all work related to fundamental astronomy, astrometry, timekeeping, celestial mechanics, and geodesy.
