Dive Survey in Support of Pearl Harbor Bulkhead 1461 Quay Wall Construction/Refurbishment Project

Abstract

This report tracks progress on a project that consisted of three tasks: Task 1. Dive survey of quay wall project site, consisting of four subtasks: Initial roving diver assessment to assess general conditions and refine full survey requirements based on presence of features of interest including essential fish habitat (EFH) that must be quantitatively assessed for regulatory approval. Quantitative mobile organism survey including dedicated fish data collection dives using methods adapted from NOAAs Rapid Ecological Assessment survey methodology, and qualitative observations of turtles, marine mammals and mobile invertebrates. Geospatial benthic habitat survey including: collection of quantitative benthic habitat cover estimates using transect and quadrat sampling, coral cover and size-frequency distribution assessment using belt transects and collection of scaled, georeferenced photographs of representative substrates, habitats, and features collection of geospatial (map) data including: survey locations, features of interest, approximate borders of substrate types and locations of quantitative benthic habitat cover estimates. Task 2. Geospatial and photographic data processing and delivery Task 3. Dive survey and assessment report.
