EOD Warrior-Athlete Working Group II: Forging the Future of the EOD Warrior-Athlete Training Program

Abstract

In 2014, the first EOD Warrior-Athlete Working Group convened to develop the EOD Warrior-Athlete Training Program (WATP). Three critical elements (exercise physiology/nutrition, injury prevention/rehabilitation, and combat mindset) and three phases of implementation [1) Assessment, 2) Educational Programming, and 3) individualized training] were identified. NHRC developed Phase 1, yielding a comprehensive database of EOD operator metrics. Recently, the EOD Warrior-Athlete Working Group II convened to establish the way forward for Education and Individualized Training for the WATP. This working group determined that Education and Individualized Training should: 1) be data- and operator-driven, 2) be a standardized program delivered by contracted subject matter experts at East and West coast fleet concentration areas, and 3) include on-demand, mobile capabilities.
