Investigations and Analyses of LTE Network Cell Tower Deployments and Impact on Path Loss Calculations

Abstract

This paper provides a methodology and results used to estimate eNB cell tower radii and associated path loss for various ground cover morphologies. The research investigated a variety of eNB cell tower datasets, ground cover morphologies, and propagation channel models to determine the sensitivity of results based on the input data. The paper shows there is a statistical difference in results depending on the cell tower location data set, ground cover morphology classification, and propagation model used. To aid the National Advanced Spectrum and Communications Test Network (NASCTN) an understanding of real-world LTE network path loss must be considered.
