The Myc-Regulated Long Noncoding RNA DANCR in Prostate Cancer

Abstract

The Myc transcription factor triggers prostate tumorigenesis in transgenic mice and is a vital driver of aggressive prostate cancer. Our overarching hypotheses are that lncRNAs associated with MYC overexpression in prostate cancer have defined biological effects and that the expression of Myc target lncRNAs, including DANCR, have predictive value in human prostate cancer prognosis. We found that the expression of lncRNAs are highly dysregulated in patients with prostate cancer, and the direct Myc target lncRNA, DANCR, is upregulated in prostate cancer and plays a role in prostate cancer cell growth and in vivo ovarian tumorigenesis. This work resulted in a publication in Cancer Research 2018. Although DANCR has a role in tumorigenesis, analysis of TCGA data on prostate cancer revealed other lncRNAs that are statistically more relevant to prostate cancer. This work is submitted for publication and will herein be expanded.
