The Value of Military History

Abstract

Military history has an increasing impact on the planning and execution of current wartime operations. It is imperative that military professionals develop the art of studying and evaluating past battles, leadership styles, conventional and nonconventional wartime methods. Much can be learned for military history by studying NCOs like Sgt Alvin York, the Freedmans Bureau and Poncho Villa.
