Former SMA Robert E. Hall

Abstract

Sergeant Major of the Anny Robert E. Hall was sworn in as the 11th Sergeant Major of the Army on 21 October 1997 and served until 23 June 2000. A career soldier, SMA Hall has held many leadership positions within the Department of the Anny and Unified Command environments. As Sergeant Major of the Anny, Hall served as the Anny Chief of Staffs personal advisor on all enlisted-related matters, particularly in areas affecting soldier training and quality of life. The SMA devoted the majority of his time to traveling throughout the Anny observing training, and talking to soldiers and their families. He sat on a wide variety of councils and boards that made decisions affecting enlisted soldiers and their families and was routinely invited to testify before Congress.
