Further Improvements Needed in Controls Over Government-Owned Plant Equipment in Custody of Contractors

Abstract

On November 24, 1967, the General Accounting Office (GAO) reported to the Congress that there was a need for improved controls over Government-owned property in contractors' plants. Subsequent internal reviews by the Department of Defense (D0D) have shown the continued existence of this situation. GAO's current review was directed chiefly toward DOD management of a major part of such property--plant equipment--to examine into the underlying causes of the problems.
