Evaluation of Surrogate 14.5-mm BS41 Armor-Piercing Projectiles

Abstract

A qualified surrogate for 14.5-mm armor-piercing incendiary (API) BS41 projectiles was needed for laboratory experiments and armor plate military specification acceptance testing. The US Army Research Laboratory* performed an analysis on the old and new domestic surrogate 14.5-mm API BS41 projectiles to establish the new projectile performance compared to the existing domestically produced surrogate. There was no attempt to compare either surrogate to the actual Soviet WWII BS41 projectile. This report outlines the tasks performed and data collected in support of this effort.
