National Attempts to Reduce Losses From Floods By Planning For and Controlling the Uses of Flood-Prone Lands

Abstract

The Federal Government has invested about $9 billion in flood protection works; however, since the adoption of a national flood control policy in 1936, annual losses from flood shave increased steadily and exceed an estimated $1 billion annually.
